Week 34

August 23: These flowers are in bloom all over the neighborhood.  Pretty, but I have no idea what they are.
August 24: I love the time of year when co-workers bring in the excess from their gardens.  Fresh eggplant and tomatoes - why yes I will and grill them up with some chicken for dinner.
August 25: S'mores Fest at biblestudy tonight.  Yum!
And later I noticed one of the girls added to my shopping list on the fridge.  See anything out of the ordinary?  Janel fessed up to it.  It made me laugh.

August 26: I took Diesel on a walk in the park for the first time in months since it wasn't blazing hot.
August 27: Jesus Prom is a party my church puts on once a year for those with special needs in our community.  Rachel got herself a dancer this year.  They spent the entire night dancing to the band, Three Ring Circus.  It was a fun night.
August 28: I typically eat my meals on the couch and Diesel usually keeps a very close watch with his pathetic puppy face. I rarely give in.
August 29: I love that good food doesn't have to be complicated.  I had 3 plums about to go bad, so I made this plum tart: a sheet of puff pastry dough, 3 sliced plums, sprinkle with 2 tablespoons of sugar and bake at 375 F for 30-35 minutes. Voila! Delicious!

Week 33

August 16: There was a beautiful purple sunrise this morning.  Though I am a little sad the days are getting shorter, I am enjoying the amazing sunrises I get to see on the drive to work.
August 17: I attended Ginger's birthday party.  She always makes sure birthdays are celebrated within our group of friends, so it was nice to celebrate hers this time.
August 18: We finished "Forgotten God" by Francis Chan in biblestudy this week.
August 19: We had some weird weather this summer and the trees are showing a little distress.  It looks like fall in some places with all the fallen leaves.
August 20: Heather & Terry's wedding reception was in Lawrence tonight.  I got to help serve cake.  She also had lots of cupcakes from The Pink Box Bakery for everyone to take home.  It was a great evening and an awesome time to talk with people I hadn't seen in a very long time.
August 21: This what Saturday nights are made for.  I got to babysit JT while his parents went out to dinner for Sharon's birthday.  We had lots of fun playing with the gravel in the driveway, riding his bike without the training wheels, swinging until it got dark, and eating cupcakes.  He's growing up too fast! He started kindergarten this week. He looks more and more like his mommy every day.

August 22: At my parents after church, "Aunt Jennifer, want me to show you how to make card houses?"

Week 32

August 9: The K-Mart house was nicknamed such by my first roommate Tanya. It had all blue lights that at Christmas, so the “blue light special” turned into the “the K-Mart house.” The K-Mart house has had its yard torn up like this for oh, nigh on 2 years. Recently they seem to be continuing whatever work was originally started.
Some of the dirt got moved across the street to this house’s yard. Most of the time I love living in a home-owner-association-free neighborhood, but there are times it would come in handy.
August 10: Raining through the sunshine.
August 11: What a 100+ degree Kansas day looks like. We’ve had a lot of them recently.
August 12: Diesel loves when I water the flowers. He begs for me to turn the sprayer on him. Then he leaps around in the spray trying to get a drink and drenching himself in the process.
August 13: Some of the blooming trumpet vine in my neighborhood.
August 14: Not peaches and cream, but nectarines and crème fraiche will do nicely.
August 15: Um, so maybe I should take some time to organize my scrapbook table. I was inspired to sort through things and straight it up.

Week 31

August 2: A large group of us went kayaking up the river about 2.5 miles and then hiked 1 mile in to a waterfall which we got to swim in.  It was awesome.

August 3: Four of us girls got up early to go hiking on the Na'pali Coast on the north shore of Kauai.  We had amazing views up the coast.  We hiked 6 miles round trip.

August 4: I hung out on the beach by the condo for a little while in the morning before having to head to the airport and back to reality.
August 5: Ah, my own bed.

August 6: I picked up Diesel from my friend Allen who took care of him while I was gone.  He was happy to see me but we have to work on some of those obedience training things again.
August 7: A goodbye party for Dan - a friend from work and church, he was a part of our 2nd mission trip to Costa Rica too.
August 8: I've been putting my new laptop to good use.  I am very happy to replace my 7 year old computer.  And this picture shows me that I really need to clean my desk...

Week 30

July 26: We did our first two kids' day (half-day) sessions at Elohim.  It was great getting to see some of the kids we hung out with last year.  We had about 250 kids over the course of the day.

July 27: We went to Sinai church in the morning for a kids' session.  We had about 80 kids.

In the afternoon we went to Las Cruces.  Both churches today are pastored by Santiago Sr.  This is the newest church plant and they do not have a facility.  So we were in an open field and halfway thru it started raining on us.  But they wanted us to keep going, so we did.  And praise the Lord, 50 kids and 1 adult came forward to accept Christ at the end.

July 28: This morning we did a kids' session at Sion, pastored by Wally.  We had about 100 kids and even the adults joined in on our activities.
In the afternoon, we got to go to Lake Coatepeque.  It is a lake in a volcano crater.  It is huge, amazing, beautiful.  Took a boat around the island in the lake and got out at a hot springs.  So awesome!

At church tonight, we got to see a lot of our Elohim friends.  Belen was my little sweetheart.  Pastor Eduardo is an awesome brother in Christ.

July 29: We did a kids' session at Jerusalem, pastored by Luis.  We had about 100 kids.  In the afternoon, a few of us hung out at Elohim before our good-bye party.  Pastor Eduardo told us 129 kids and 3 adults accepted Christ over the course of the week! It was awesome to see God move.

July 30:  I flew to Kauai for my friend's wedding.  We got to stay at this awesome condo.

July 31: Heather & Terry's wedding

August 1:  I drove to the south side of the island in the morning to Waimea Canyon - Hawaii's Grand Canyon.  It was pretty incredible though somewhat socked in by the clouds.

In the afternoon most of the wedding guests went snorkeling & swimming at Tunnels Beach on the north side of the island.  I snorkeled with 2 sea turtles!
