Spring

We had some amazing spring days this week, even made it up to 80 degrees.  The Bradford pear trees have burst into bloom.  And after a few nice days, Mother Nature decided we'd had enough and it's been cold & cloudy for the last few days.  

I bought some new pants this week.  I broke out the sewing machine to hem a few of them.  It makes me thankful to my mom and the other ladies on the farm who taught me so sew when I was a kid.  It has saved me a lot of money.  I am also thankful to have the sewing machine my parents bought for my sisters & I in junior high. 

I went with a group of friends to the Wichita Grand Opera's 10th Anniversary Gala Concert on Saturday night.  It was a lot of fun.  And the soprano, Joyce DiDonato, was amazing. 

cookbooks

One of our Borders stores is closing.  Books were finally 40-50% off this week.  I have been waiting for that and hoping the cookbooks I wanted would still be around.  I ended up getting two Nigella Lawson cookbooks and two Ina Garten.  I'm excited.  I'll have lots of cooking to do!

Abandon Kansas, Drool Fest and more

It was a full week.  I am glad I made it through.  Tuesday night I went to a concert of the band "Abandon Kansas".  A guy I grew up going to church with joined the band last year as their bass player.  They played at a church 2 blocks from my house.  Chet did a great job.  The concert was loud, but good.

Friday night I hosted another Drool Fest.  It's a chick flick movie night where we choose a drool-worthy actor and watch a few of his movies.  It was a lot of fun.  It also happened to be Annette's birthday, so I made a cake for her.  Chocolate, coffee, strawberries and raspberries can't go wrong.

I changed my bedding from the heavy winter comforter to my summer bedding today. But it's not quite warm enough for just the summer quilt so I get to add my favorite blanket. This has been on my bed since I was a little girl.  It was one of my parents' wedding gifts.  The happy 1970s daisies always make me smile.

Order of the Engineer

This weekend I went to the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) region i conference in Golden, CO.  We were stuck in the conference the entire weekend so I didn't get to see anything of Golden other than a bit of the Colorado School of Mines campus. I had the opportunity to do The Order of the Engineer ceremony and get my ring.  The Order of the Engineer oath basically says you'll use your engineering abilities for the betterment of society.  We received a a stainless steel ring to wear on the pinky finger of our working hand to remind us of the oath.
